Killed three hundred Turks at Gallipoli, partnering with spotter Ion Idriess - known to his mates as “the Assassin.” Black moustache. Goatee.

Travelled to Sydney during the war - got involved with the Waterside Workers’ Federation. Beat up by coppers in the 1917 general strike. Good negotiator. Sends money from odd jobs to the union Widows & Orphans Fund.

Tom Solomon, harpoonist. Born into the Solomon whaling family of Eden, on the shores of Twofold Bay, known for their co-operation with orcas. Mother a Yuin fisherwoman. Always gets his Jewish holidays mixed up. Knows everything there is to know about the sea. Worked for a time on the Norwegian factory ship Hektoria in the Southern Ocean - doesn’t like the new grenade harpoons. Whimsical. Unsympathetic.

Endlessly fascinated by the marvels of the modern world. Denies eating her first husband - insists he fell off a boat. Uncomfortable in cities or in clothes. Botany degree from the University of Queensland - goes off on expeditions every chance she gets.

Made headlines a while ago for catching the Yarra Ripper - hasn’t done much since.
