Yeah I like the idea that ordinary humans can be just as dangerous to the PCs as "the supernatural". I've been trying to write these as crime stories rather than horror stories, to enable exactly this kind of lateral thinking. No incomprehensible cosmic horrors - the PCs should ultimately be able to understand the systems they're trying to manipulate.
You gonna keep going East with this awesome project? Did I tell you that you and I, doing very different things (you make gameable content, I write pulp adventure stories), seem to always end up researching the same areas? I mean, in my published stories I've only gotten as far as Hong Kong, Addis Abeba, Meroe, Cairo, Monaco and Vienna but the stuff that I've already written for my buffer of publications includes Venice, New York and Mexico City - and Istanbul and parts of India are on my list as well...

My original plan was to finish with Calcutta but I had another burst of inspiration and ended up adding another eight mysteries for Shanghai. Ideally I'd like to cover the entire world - writing these things becomes very addictive.
